Since April 2010, Britain's national mapping agency Ordnance Survey has released a large amount of free map data. UK Map makes much of that data available in a single app. It includes 1:1M MiniScale® and 1:250k road maps, which are built into the app, and 1:25k district maps and 1:10k street maps for the entire country which you can download in 5km by 5km tiles. Unlike other Ordnance Survey apps, these downloads are entirely free of charge - the only cost is the initial purchase of the app.

New in version 2.0, the app now has a 3D mode that lets you view the terrain from any viewpoint - it's great for visualising hills and mountains.

In comparison with other map apps, this app shows much more detail of individual buildings at the street level.

Note that Ordnance Survey have not released any of their Landranger® or Explorer® map data as part of this free scheme, so those maps are not included in the app. However the app's 1:25k maps are suitable for countryside use; they are comparable to Landranger, since they don't show field boundaries and a few other details. They do show water features and woodland, contour lines and hill shading, and now also footpaths.

Note that because the footpaths are derived from volunteer-collected data from OpenStreetMap.org, the coverage is not yet as complete as the other map data.

The app also includes a searchable gazetteer containing over 250,000 place names, 850,000 street names and 1.7 million post codes. All of this data is built in to the app, so this search also works when there is no network connection.

The app also supports the compass (iPhone 3GS, 4, and iPad only) and GPS (iPhone and some iPads only), and can display your position and altitude.

After installing the app, touch the '?' button to view the instructions including how to download detailed maps and how to move around in 3D mode.

UK Map is compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. However the 3D mode is not available on the iPhone 3G or the 2nd generation (2008) iPod touch.

Unfortunately Northern Ireland is not included. The Isle of Man is included only at road-atlas scales.

What is the difference between Plane Finder AR and Plane Finder?
Plane Finder AR is our augmented reality app that shares the data available in Plane Finder- our original iPhone App. Plane Finder (and Plane Finder HD) provide a near real time virtual radar view of flight from across the world and include a great deal more detail that Plane Finder AR. All Plane Finder apps share common ADS-B data.

Why can't I see all planes?
Aircraft must be carrying ADS-B equipment and we must have a feed in the area. (In the US airlines have been slow to adopt the technology but usage is continuing to rise).

What if my area isn’t covered?
We are always on the lookout for more data feeds. Check back regularly to see if we have added your area.

If I have an SBS, RadarBox, Plane Gadget or Aurora ADS-B receiver can I share my data for use with Plane Finder AR?
Yes. Please contact support@pinkfroot.com and we can assist.

"Anchor Watch" uses the GPS on your iPad to monitor your boat's position. If the boat moves outside of set limits, the program will alert you immediately. Alerts include phone calls, sound, vibration alerts, popups or email.

There are no more sleepless nights when you worry about weather your boat is dragging or not. Keep the phone next to where you are sleeping and a quick glance will assure you that all is ok.

If the boat drags out of the predefined area (no limit on radius), it will alert you in any way you decide. Flashing text, sounding alarm or even call to another phone.

As only anchor guard app for iOS, Anchor Watch allows for the manual adjustment of your anchor position. So if you were busy with other things then setting the alarm, you can adjust for the drift.

And if you anchored both stern and bow, Anchor Watch offers an unique course alert when a minor drift can still mean your boat is turned from the pier.

Anchor Watch sophisticated filtering allows for GPS errors, which can occur every now and then. The settings panel is fully customized allowing a number of different alarm types.

Of course it fully supports iOS4 and runs in the background too, which allows you to pursue other activities on your phone while Anchor Watch is on guard.
